I Took the Progress Pledge so...

Because of the Progress Pledge, I chose to discuss those things I do that turn out well and those things that could have gone better as well.
I started my Skill Builder Sampler yesterday. I was determined to use fabric from my stash instead of going out to buy fabrics, though I did have to pick up 2 for darks. I wasn't excited about the combination I had because it seemed a stretch that they would go together. They were definitely not fabrics I would have put together if I were purchasing.
So I saw that the first block was a log cabin. I've done a log cabin before but the only one I've ever done was for a Christmas quilt. I just decided to throw some of the fabrics together and go with it.
Hmmm... Yeah, I'm not sure I like it. At first I thought it was too busy, but I think you can get away with busy if your fabrics compliment each other. I think that might be my problem. I don't know that they compliment each other enough. I don't know, maybe it's fine. I think when I try to force something I have a hard time seeing it for what it is. I overanalyze it and in the back of my mind I keep thinking, "This is not how I would have done it if I had purchased the fabrics together." looking at it now, I kind of wish I had traded the green fabric with the flowers with the funky multicolored stripe on the other side. Then I don't think I would have used pink. I'm either going to leave it like it is, tear it apart or go shopping. I know, I know. But I want to love the things I do. Otherwise, why do them?

You know, I am with you..if you don't love what you are doing, then it starts to seem like work not fun. Go with what makes you happy :)

Don't pooh pooh the block yet, because it may look cool once all of the blocks are all put together. You never know. I totally understand though. I do the same thing as well.

hmm I don't know. I have trouble working on something that doesn't make me happy and it always sticks out to me.

I guess it depends on what you'll do when you're done. Are you keeping it or giving it away as a gift? I could see these colors being very fun and bright for a baby girl. And once all the blocks are done, the colors will combine together for their own pretty pattern.

I can't wait to see what you do! The fabrics are really fun, so I hope you end up liking how you put them together. =)
