I'm done!

Well, I guess it takes making something a specific goal to get it finished. I am linking up to Amy's Creative Side for her One Thing One Week Challenge.

Amy's Creative Side

My first goal was to finish my second block for the Skill Builder Sampler. That can be seen on yesterday's blog post here.
My second goal was to finish quilting my X Marks the Spot quilt. I finished that about 30 minutes ago!
I do have one question about it that I will post at the end.
Here is the overall front.

I still have to do binding but I my goal was just to get the quilting done, so I'm okay. Although, my neighbor is driving the kids to swim class this afternoon so I still plan on getting the binding done today before quilting guild meeting tonight!
Here is a close-up of how the blocks are quilted.

I could have quilted it with an emphasis on the X's but instead I chose to go against it and do blocks. Hubbie said he liked how the quilting went totally against the design. But it does follow the blocks so it's not totally bucking the system!
I just followed the corners with double lines.

And here is the back.
Now, I'm totally satisfied except for one thing. The idea was to do blocks that graduated upward in size, but I did something extra on a couple of blocks before not being able to decide if I liked it or not.
I added those emphasis lines to the X part. Just not sure about it. It's the only thing on the quilt that's not a box. Here it is from the back.
I'm tempted to take them out because it kind of makes me think it looks like I couldn't make up my mind; boxes or X's. What do you think? Also, if there are any opinions on black versus green binding, I'd love to hear them!
Tomorrow is post 100 so come back for my giveaway!
Oh, I also decided to add this to Sew Modern Monday at Canoe Ridge Creations as well.

What a cool quilt! Very original. I like the X's. For the sake of the front of the quilt I like green binding, but for the back I'd do black. What to do!? Maybe one of the print fabrics? Good luck!

Well, congrats on getting your goals done! I really like how you quilted X! The boxes are great, and they look especially good on the back! As for the X's - I think that it comes down to personal preference - I think they look okay, but I would either do them on all the blocks, or not do them on any of the blocks. Up to you, but I do think it needs to be all of nothing. (If it were mine, I would do them in all, but like I said - up to your preference!) Great work girl!

my vote would be for black, but I am sure either would look great on this beautiful quilt.
I like the quilting, I think the little extra sets off the design well. Great job!

I see you are a guider. I was a cub leader for 7 years and loved it :-)

Congratulations on reaching your goals! I am a beginner quilter with only 2 lap quilts under my belt, but I vote for black binding. And, I agree with Linz...I'm an all or nothing vote too. Have a happy one!

I like the quilting to. It goes with the 'graphic' nature of the quilt. Nice colors.

I like your black, white, and green color combination!

I think the Xs look nice... otherwise, what would you do in the centers? I think I might outline the whole X inside the block because it would look cool from the front.

I vote for green binding. Great job! :)

What a gorgeous quilt, front and back!! Just spectacular. I like the X's and would go with green binding just as nice final frame. Beautiful!!

Lovely quilt!! I really like the green and black combination so the binding would look good in either colour.

Great job with the quilt Melinda! I think either black or green would be a great binding.

You know, the pictures just don't do this quilt justice. I loved seeing it in person. Gorgeous!

Love this! I would try out the green binding, personally.

This quilt is gorgeous! I'd probably go with the black binding, but either works.

Your X Marks quilt looks incredible!! I really like how you choose to do the quilting and would totally leave that X part (that's me). Looking forward to seeing this one with binding on too! Happy 4th of July!
