FMQ and Halloween-y Win!

I forgot the day that the FMQ practice was due again, and low and behold it was today. You would think that I could get it right considering she calls it Free Motion Friday. Yeah. Stop laughing. Anwyay, yet again, I ran downstairs to get my FMQ done for the day. I didn't think it turned out too badly. This week was called drop art, another Leah Day design.
I liked the look of the drops and I think the stitches were pretty uniform; I just didn't get them close enough together. I did figure out that it worked better for me to drop down to the right, move left and come up. I think she does it the other way in the video, but mine were always a little bumpy looking when I went that way. I also had trouble going back over existing lines to get to the next spot. I also too Rebecca Lynne's tip of humming a little lullaby while I was doing it to help with syncing speed and movement. Overall, I didn't think it was too shabby. Until I saw this.

Yeah, there a couple of not so pretty places that came up on the back. But it's a learning process so, that is what I will do; practice. Today I spent some time working on my string quilt. I was kind of hoping to get the top done so I could get it quilted together for yet another donation quilt. Then I discovered the true joy that is picking out paper on paper pieced blocks. Bliss. Heaven. Not.

On a happier note, I found out a few minutes ago that I won some Halloween fabric from Sew Allegorical! Thank you so much! I've been on a Ghastlie kick so it will be nice to have something different to work with in the Halloween realm! Thank you Allegory!

Yours look so great! I'll have to try going the other way and seeing if that helps. I think your "traveling" stitches are really good! Mine were never even close to being on top of one another. Excellent work!

Your drops look good....picking paper from the back of sewing is not good and I only use tracing paper!

Free motion Tuesday? No. Free motion Sunday? No. Friday, my friend. Friday :)

So glad you could play along! I like that you're messing around and doing what works best for you vs what is in the video. I'll have to give it a shot this week too. You did a great job - come back and play again next Monday. What?!?! No. Friday. Free motion Friday :)

Ya I am definitely digging the way your drops are not all right next to each other and there's some open space. I think that looks interesting! Good luck with the string quilt :D

pick out the paper while watching TV or a movie. Makes it seem like fun. You don't even realize you are doing it after a short while.

looking good. Loving the contrast with your fabric and the thread, really shows what bis going on. And the spaces work well too, makes it very pleasing.

Great shapes on your drops - never mind the back - that's not as bad as some of my attempts!
