If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane asylums would be filled with mothers. ~Edgar W. Howe
Okay, so can you tell I'm ready for the kids to go back to school? We meet their new teachers today. Thing 1's 3rd grade teacher rotated up to 4th grade and it would not hurt my feelings at all if she got her again. Then there's Thing 2. He's smart, active, and all boy. He's already starting to read and he's going into kindergarten. I just want a teacher who is more concerned with him learning and keeping him busy than she is with whether or not he fits in her box. Can I get an amen? Amen! I'm praying. I'm praying hard.
On the quilting front, I finally finished up block 4 for Embroidery 101 at Clover and Violet.
I was a little worried that block 5 would come out today but luckily I have until Aug. 10th. I wanted to see how all my blocks looked together so far. Here they are.
I like them with that Just Wing It fabric by Moda.
I've also been working on my Riley Blake Christmas quilt. I had to do some quilt math. Not my strong suit. I got the sides right but messed up the top so I have to fix it. Here is where the basic quilt is headed.
I like how that jade line helps a bit. I'm currently working on the center for that big empty square. Did I mention that I've just been making this up as I go along? Yeah, as if that's not apparent.
Yes, that's orange. It's the only color in the green fabrics that I hadn't used yet and I happened to have some Kona. This is where my quilt math went awry. Those little green blocks are 2.5 inch square. The red ones were too but they were going to make it too long so I had to figure out how much to shorten them to make them fit the length of the orange block. They turned out correct. Then I had to figure out the top and bottom. Yeah, those didn't work out correctly so I've got to go back and do them again.
Back on the home front, hubbie and I got some cute pictures of a baby deer in the backyard yesterday. Ignore the fact that he was eating our azaleas at the time; we did.
I think mama was none too happy with us being around.
So they made like a banana and split.

We are headed to meet teachers today, too. We found out last night who we have and my prayers were answered! TTYL.
Good luck with the teachers. Great pictures of Bambi and his mother.
Good luck with THing I and 2's teachers. I'm so glad my baby finished school last year and I don't have to worry about that any more.
Your Embroidery 101 blocks look great together don't they!
The deer look so cute a pity about your plants though.
Your progress is looking great!
